Teaser for the series "The Three-Body Problem" (Netflix)
As part of the "Tudum" event that was streamed from Brazil tonight (Saturday to Sunday), Netflix unveiled the first teaser for one of its most intriguing new series: "The Three-Body Problem." Incidentally, Netflix reveals that the series is expected to premiere on the service in January 2024.
This is the second series (after "The English Department") under the nine-figure contract Netflix signed with David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, creators of "Game of Thrones" — an adaptation of Hugo Award-winning Liu Cixin's bestselling trilogy — given annually to the best works of science fiction and fantasy. Unlike "The English Department", Weiss and Benioff were responsible producers but did not create and write the series, this time it is their own series similar to "Game of Thrones".

The plot of "The Three-Body Problem" describes the first ever encounter between humanity and an evolved alien population. Set against the backdrop of China's Cultural Revolution, a secret military project sends signals into space in hopes of making contact with aliens. An alien society on the verge of extinction intercepts the transmitters and decides to invade Earth. The human community is split between preparing for war and a willingness to reach out and accept the new conquerors as a blessing for the corruption that is rampant on Earth. The plot description is depicted in time jumps between past, present and future. Although set in China, the series is English-speaking, and you can watch its teaser with Hebrew subtitles above.
Interestingly, the first book in the series has already received another elaborate adaptation this year originating in China, and although its budget is much lower than what Netflix invested in its version, it is receiving excellent reviews. For those interested, the series is available in full and officially on YouTube with English subtitles.
